Rick and Morty: Every Main Character's Age (2024)

Many television shows, cartoons especially, have their characters remain the same age throughout the entire series. Maybe this is to create a world that could be happening at any moment in time; it creates a "floating timeline," and it makes a series timeless. Or it could just be to avoid creating new animations.

Rick and Morty is no exception to this. The show has been on the air for 5 seasons with no end in sight, and the characters look exactly the same way they did in Season 1. While we see the characters, especially Rick, at many different stages of their lives, the characters we see in every episode stay the same age.

5 Rick Is Older Than He Looks (70 YearsOld)

Rick Sanchez is currently 70 years old. He is Morty and Summer's grandfather and Beth's father. The show introduces him as a previously absent father who just recently moved in with his daughter's family. We see Rick at many different ages, whether it's in a flashback, or he actually turns himself into a teenage version of himself. He is shown as a child, a teenager, a 30 something, a 50 something, and more in between.

Due to Rick's fuzzy past and his constant interdimensional travel, his exact age is hard to pinpoint. He could have lived in a dimension where time moved differently or created a device that makes him immortal since he also calls himself a God more than once. There are many factors that go into Rick's age that are unknown, but he currently resides in the 70-year-old version of his body.

4 MortyIs Just Starting High School (14 Years Old)

Morty Smith is 14 years old and is currently a freshman at Harry Herpson High School. Everything about his character screams 14 years old. He is insecure, constantly talks about masturbating, and is obsessed with girls, namely Jessica, a girl in his grade. Morty goes on to date a few girls, none for very long. He goes out with Jessica, then she is crystallized in an alternate dimension. He dates Planetina, who is probably too old for him, and also went on an environmental rampage. He also lives a life with an unnamed girl, and they are very happy, even surviving a plane crash. But that ends because of an accidental reset due to a remote that Rick made for Morty.

In the Season 5 finale, Morty ages himself up to 40 years old in an attempt to make Rick feel bad about his actions. It doesn't work of course, and then when they try to revert Morty to his regular age, we end up meeting a 27-year-old Morty as well, who dies immediately. Because of his new lifestyle with Rick, Morty had to grow up pretty fast. The things he sees, and the things he ends up doing are not things that a kid should have to deal with.

3 Summer Is On The Edge Of Adulthood (17-18 Years Old)

Summer Smith is 17 years old and turns 18 in the 5th season. She is a great character because she could've just been the dumb boy-crazy sister, but instead, she's complex and has great one-liners. Her parents had her when they were very young, and she is very self-conscious of the fact that she was a "mistake," or that her mom almost had an abortion. She is very obviously in high school; she loves her phone, wants to be popular, and is always on social media.

Like Morty, she is also very influenced by Rick because she has traits the typical teenager shouldn't have. She can be narcissistic, easily annoyed, and even sociopathic. She is very family-oriented and extremely jealous of her younger brother's relationship with Grandpa Rick.

2 Beth Is A Young Mom (34 Years Old)

Beth Smith is 34 years old. When she was 17, she got pregnant with Summer, and later married Jerry and had Morty. Beth is an incredibly impressive woman when all her achievements and hindrances are considered. She grew up with Rick as her father, causing her to become violent and pretty psychotic, only for her father to disappear for 20 some years. She got pregnant at 17, got married, had another kid, raised them (albeit from a distance) while her husband was unemployed, and became the world's best horse doctor.

In season 3, she begins to realize how different her life could've been, and she asks Rick to make it happen for her. Rick clones her so that she can go be a badass in space, but still be with her family.

1 Jerry Is Older Than His Mentality Suggestes (35 Years Old)

Jerry Smith is 35 years old, one year older than his wife, Beth. He knocked her up on their prom night when she was 17 and he was 18. Jerry is never seen at any different ages, but Jerrys' from different dimensions are seen quite often.

He is a very insecure man, probably because his wife is the breadwinner, he's unemployed, and his father-in-law, Rick Sanchez, has no respect for him whatsoever. Morty and Summer are big fans of Grandpa Rick, and therefore also treat Jerry as the butt of every joke. His marriage hasn't been perfect, as Beth often defends Rick, and they end up separating at one point. Things change, and Jerry gains more confidence, Beth learns how to renounce Rick, and Jerry even saves her life after a misadventure with her father. A main plotline of the showis Jerry fighting for his family's love because he loves them so much.
