These Yard House shiitake garlic noodles are the main reason why I wanted to go to Yard House. Of course, they have a menu full of fantastic and flavorful items, but these noodles did not disappoint. They were springy, slick with sauce, and studded with flavorful shiitake mushrooms. Even my kids were begging for a second bite!

These noodles are found in the appetizer section of the menu at Yardhouse, but when you make this easy recipe at home, they are a filling main dish.

This delicious dish was inspired by my need to replicate the dish I heard so much about and I was surprised to see that it contains relatively simple ingredients.

Recreating restaurant-style dishes at home is a great way to save money when you have a larger family, or simply don't want to corral all of your kids and take them to a busy restaurant in the middle of the week. This popular dish is quick enough for a weeknight meal and tastes just like the real thing!

  • shiitake mushrooms
  • stir fry sauce

📝Instructions

Making these delicious garlic noodles is easy. After you cook your noodles to al dente, according to the package directions, rinse them with cold water so they stop cooking. Toss them with a little bit of vegetable oil or butter so they don't stick together.

In a large skillet, melt butter then add the sh*take mushrooms and cook them until they are golden brown. Be sure to use medium heat so the butter doesn't burn and turn the dish bitter.

I add the fresh garlic just before adding the remaining sauce ingredients and only cook it briefly so it doesn't burn.

Once you add your cooked noodles to the pan, you can adjust your heat to medium-high heat if needed to reheat your noodle thoroughly.

The best part of this easy garlic noodle recipe is how quickly the dish comes together once you have all of your ingredients measured out. The total time it takes is about 15 minutes.

Keep in mind that these yard house shiitake garlic noodles make a pretty light dinner so the best way to add some protein is to saute some tofu, shrimp, or chicken in a skillet before starting the noodles. Be sure to season whatever protein you decide to use with light soy sauce and some black pepper. Cook the protein in sesame oil for even more flavor.

💭Substitutions

  • Honey - use brown sugar or maple syrup
  • Linguini - use egg noodles, ramen noodles, or angel hair pasta (these all have different cooking times so adjust accordingly)
  • Chives - If your grocery store doesn't have chives feel free to substitute them with green onions. Chives were either not fresh or very woody when I tested this recipe. Green onions are always easy to find and typically more affordable than chives.

📝Variations

If you can't find shiitake mushrooms, then you can substitute sliced cremini mushrooms or button mushrooms. The flavor will be different, but the final dish will still taste good.

Another thing you can do is look for dehydrated shiitake mushrooms in your local Asian market. I like having these on hand because fresh shiitake mushrooms are extremely perishable. If you plan to make this recipe and purchase fresh shiitakes, you'd have to plan on making this dish within a few days because the mushroom mold so quickly.

Buying the right stir fry sauce is essential to getting this dish to taste like yard house noodles. If you can't find it, oyster sauce or even hoisin sauce will work in a pinch. Of course, it won't taste exactly like the yard house garlic noodles recipe, but it will still be delicious.

❄️Storage

Store any leftover yard house shiitake garlic noodles in an airtight container where they will be good for 2-3 days.

These ingredients don't stand up well to freezing.

These delicious noodles reheat well. Just add a little hot water to the skillet so the noodles don't dry out while reheating. To reheat the noodles in the microwave, add a few tablespoons of water to the pasta and microwave for 1-2 minutes, stirring halfway through the cooking time to make sure the pasta reheats evenly.

Do not use the vegetarian stir fry sauce. It is too salty for this recipe. Be sure to purchase the original stir fry sauce.

This tastes exactly like Yard House’s. I only used 4 TSP butter and it tasted just fine. Lee Kum Kee website has recipe for their stir fry sauce so I made 1/2 portion of that for 1/2 cup of sauce to use for your recipe. Excellent easy copycat recipe. Chive tastes more subtle than green onion and gives perfect balance for this recipe. Thank you for sharing!!

Delicious! Just like Yard House. Only had hot honey so we used that and loved the bit of spice.
